ACQUISTION OF TEXTUAL DATA IN SIMPLE WORDS
Let me explain Textual data in a flow diagram;
The simple way of input of textual data is manual entry using keyboard.
The text will be stored in ASCII code or Unicode in computer's memory.
Advantages of textual data:
- The number of Bits stored is very small.
- Very easy to manage and edit.
Disadvantages of textual data:
- It is slow because it is entered manually
- It is really very expensive, to hire people and write.
- Humans may make mistake as they enter manually.
- Image cannot be inserted.
There are some alternative for manual entry.
The standard method used today is image scanner.
An image scanner scans the data and stores in 0 and 1s.
Some best alternative to manual typing;
- Flatbed scanner
- Sheet bed scanner
- Drum scanner
- Hand held scanner
Drum scanners are more expensive but gives best performance.
Hand held scanners are very cheap, gives a worst performance.
Flatbed scanners cheap and good at performance.
All the four types of data can be scanned through these scanners.
In my next article I have given a brief explanation about the different types of scanners.
