Data acquisition consist of following three steps:

• The first is reading data using a device.
• Converting the data so that it can be stored in computer memory.
• We apply a transformation of data, so we can reduce the amount of storage.

So, to read a data we need several input device, 

The data will be encoded in binary form and stored in computer memory.

Let me give a example how to read and process and display the data;

Preparing a bill in a supermarket,

The layout will look something like this, we either do it manually or through any kind of input device.

In this place we use a manual entry where we use mouse or joystick as input device to move the curser.

When the final result displays in VDU (video display unit ). It looks like this.

In this example keyboard and mouse is input device. All the data are typed by worker manually.

This method is called manual data entry.

VDU is the output device where we can see the result.
